Battle of Chedon
The Battle of Chedon was a battle during the Dragon War, taking place from Winter 6 Winday to Winter 11 Soroday, 349 GC, in the village of Chedon, duchy of Menendras, in the Morrowood province.
The Vengeance of the Lost sent a small wing of thirty dragons to take the keep, assuming its meager defenses could not hold. It was meant to serve as a forward command post for attacks against Menendara. However, the keep did not fall quickly; the dragons sent more and more troops, continually frustrated by the keep's stubbornness. After 40 days, some six hundred dragons were continually assaulting the keep, unable to penetrate it despite the ruin they inflicted on the dwarven masonry. They could smell no food within its walls, no way to sustain the men within, yet sustain they did. Just when the dragons were on the verge of giving up, or perhaps succumbing to The Rage, the army of Menendras arrived to break the siege, routing their forces.
The battle was a decisive victory for the Kingdom of the Sword; though few casualties were inflicted on the dragons, one of their primary thrusts into the kingdom was delayed long enough to provide a crucial window of reorganization that Menendras desperately needed. Had the keep fallen quickly, the dragons would have besieged Menendara within days, long before they could properly marshal their troops. The goal was not to destroy Menendara itself, but tie up its armies in defense of the city, so as to avoid their sizable numbers contributing to the defense of Oathkeep, in their planned, upcoming siege of the city to take place on the Day of Memory.
Some scholars propose that this victory gave Oathkeep the edge it needed to survive that siege, though others debate the importance of Menendras' troops in a battle of that scale.
